The Graveyard
The Christ Church graveyard consists of the old churchyard, the Garden of
Remembrance, the extension and the woodland extension (entrance near the cul-de-
sac on Station Road). The graveyard is full, so no new plots are available, however
interments are still possible in existing plots.
The regular maintenance of the churchyard is carried out by a Community Payback
Team, The Friends of Christ Church Graveyard Group and by relatives of the
deceased. Note that maintenance of memorials and levelling of the ground following
an interment is the responsibility of the relatives.
There are National Churchyard Regulations governing the treatment of graves.
They specify that:
- kerbs, railings, posts or chains around a grave are not permitted
- chippings are not permitted
- spring or autumn bulbs can be planted, but not trees or other plants
- graves must be levelled and turfed or seeded with grass
- flowers may be laid on graves or placed in a vase sunk into the ground
- objects, such as Christmas decorations, windmills, toys etc. are not legally permitted.
Please contact hello@churchcollective.uk if you have an enquiry about the graveyard or the Garden
of Remembrance.

The Friends of Christ Church Graveyard
The Friends of Christ Church Graveyard was established in June 2017 as a
Community Association. The Group is open to all those with an interest in the
graveyard and develops opportunities to improve and refurbish the graveyard for the
benefit of all users and visitors.
The Group helps those who care for graves of loved ones, those who visit to find
solace in bereavement or who wish to take advantage of a quiet, natural area, as
well as those who use the routes through the graveyard and surrounding footpaths.
We work with the Church Council and the Community Payback Team on the
maintenance and development of the graveyard.
We hold regular clear up mornings, when we carry out lightweight tasks. We also
seek funding for major work, such as tree and shrub management, path creation and
repair and boundary restoration. We help those who are interested in the history of
the graveyard, local/family history and military graves.
The Friends are all volunteers and live in the local community. All funding comes
from grant-aid, fund raising activities carried out during the year or through
donations, which are always welcome.
